Photoexcitation: The Science of Sight
Role: Medical Illustrator
Photoexcitation is the complex process of how the eye perceives light. Photons of light travel through the eye to the photoreceptor cells of the retina. The photons activate a cascade of subatomic reactions, starting in the discs of the photo-sensitive cells, that ultimately create an image of what you see in the visual cortex of the brain in a matter of milliseconds.
